This Privacy Policy explains how Aisle Scan (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Aisle Scan mobile application (the “App”).
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we may collect your email address, name, and a password (stored only as a secure hash). This information is used to authenticate you and personalize your experience.
1.2 Profile Information
To provide personalized nutrition insights, you may optionally provide health-related preferences such as:
- Allergies and intolerances
- Dietary preferences (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free)
- High-level goals (e.g., losing weight, building muscle)
This information is stored securely and used only to tailor the analysis we provide.
1.3 Scan Data
When you scan or upload a photo of a food label, the image and resulting AI-generated analysis may be stored with your account so that you can view your history and insights later.
In guest/demo mode, scans are not linked to an account and are not intended to be stored long term.
1.4 Usage Data
We may collect basic usage information such as app interactions, feature usage, and error logs to improve stability and user experience. This data is generally aggregated and not used to identify you personally.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Authenticate your account and keep it secure
- Provide personalized analysis and recommendations
- Maintain your scan history and profile settings
- Operate, maintain, and improve the App
- Respond to support requests and communicate important updates
3. Use of AI Services
Aisle Scan uses third‑party AI services (such as Google Gemini) to analyze food labels. Images or derived text from labels may be sent securely to these providers solely for the purpose of generating nutritional analysis. We do not sell this data.
These providers may process data according to their own privacy policies. Please review their documentation for details on retention and usage.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- With service providers who help us operate the App (e.g., hosting, databases, AI APIs)
- When required by law, regulation, or legal process
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information, profile, and scan history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, subject to any legal obligations.
Guest scans are intended to be temporary and are not associated with a persistent user profile.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and secure password hashing. However, no system can be completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Choices & Rights
You can:
- Update your profile information in the App
- Delete scans or your account (where supported in the App)
- Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your data
Depending on your location, you may have additional data protection rights under local law.
8. Children’s Privacy
Aisle Scan is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after any changes signifies your acceptance of the updated policy.
